ProMusica Chamber Orchestra opens its 38th Season October 9 in the historic Great Southern Theatre. The Southern is celebrating its 120th Anniversary this year. Columbus almost lost this elegant and intimate “jewel box” theater, vacant from 1979 until 1996 — when private and public supporters cooperated toward an extensive 14-month, $10-million renovation, resulting in its grand reopening in 1998.

Billy Ireland, legendary Columbus Dispatch editorial cartoonist, depicted the Southern in the cartoon at left, emphasizing “every seat is a good seat.”

Many thanks to a generous supporter for her patronage of a ProMusica season program ad on behalf of Columbus Landmarks, and for her attentive work researching the Southern Theatre, and writing and developing the informative ads.
