As I’ve settled into this role, I’ve come to appreciate just how deeply Columbus Landmarks is woven into the fabric of our city. For nearly 50 years, this organization has championed the spaces and stories that define Columbus. Building on the remarkable foundation laid by Susan Keeny, I’m eager to continue that legacy and help lead us toward our milestone 50th anniversary in 2027.

This fall, I’ve been working with students at Fort Hayes Metropolitan School through our Building Arts Studio—introducing them to the preservation trades and inspiring the next generation of skilled craftspeople.

While students at similar programs across the country learn the ins and outs of modern construction, we bring in professionals who teach them the skills specialized to rehabilitation.  Rich Dawson of Midtown Restoration works with the masonry classes to learn proper mortar formulas to be compatible with historic bricks and how to tuckpoint.  Lindsay Jones of Blind Eye Restoration assists the carpentry students in measuring and milling replacement windows to restore the original appearance.  This work aims to bring the historic Gate House at Fort Hayes back to life.

I’ve also had the pleasure of joining members for the 2025 Most Endangered Sites tour and the recent member event, where I’ve heard firsthand why this work matters to so many.

In the months ahead, I’ll be expanding our Home Preservation Program to provide practical, hands-on support to homeowners across Columbus. Drawing on my experience with the State Historic Preservation Office’s Building Doctor Program, my goal is to help more people care for their homes and neighborhoods with confidence.

I’m also committed to strengthening our partnerships with community organizations and local commissions, ensuring that preservation remains part of Columbus’s growth story. I look forward to connecting with more of you along the way—hearing your ideas, your experiences, and your hopes for the future of preservation in our city.
