5. Hallwood House (1895)
776-778 Franklin Avenue, Columbus, Ohio

Owner: Adger E. Cowans
Former home of famous Columbus resident and entrepreneur Henry S. Hallwood of Hallwood Block and Hallwood Cash Register fame. Built in 1895, its eclectic architectural style includes elements of Romanesque Revival, French Chateauesque and Queen Anne styles. Accomplished painter and sculptor Barbara Chavous lived in the home most recently and until her death in 2008. The property has been neglected since, and abandoned for over three years. It now suffers from a partially collapsed roof, damaged and missing windows, rotting trim and significant interior damage. The house is located in Olde Towne East, one of the most appreciated and desirable areas near downtown.
